Hello everyone, hope everything is going good 🙂
Recently, i was contacted by a good friend to do a photo shoot showcasing Yoga and it’s beauty.
I think i would be doing her and Yoga as a whole a disservice if i didn’t put some info on exactly what Yoga is so you will be seeing some info about Yoga in between a number of the images posted.
Here is an exerpt from Wikipedia:
Yoga (/ˈjoʊɡə/; Sanskrit: योग, Listen are the physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines that aim to transform body and mind. The term denotes a variety of schools, practices and goals in Hinduism, Buddhism (including Vajrayana and Tibetan Buddhism) and Jainism, the best-known being Hatha yoga and Raja yoga. The term yoga is derived from the literal meaning of “yoking together” a span of horses or oxes, but came to be applied to the “yoking” of mind and body.
Our original plan was to have it done on the streets..at particular places we would stumble upon while traveling around locations in NY/NJ.
Now, i must admit, i had some issues on how i would go about it because i was SO used to doing things on the fly.
I was more used to the randomness of my street compositions, and of the images i was trying to capture on them.
BUT after some thought, i began to get truly excited at the idea of being able to work with someone like her and hit the streets to shoot at interesting locations. We seem to have similar senses of humor which always helps! lol
We all pull inspiration from different places, one of my favorite places to pull from is humor.
Unfortunately, due to some time restraints in our personal lives we couldn’t hit the streets at the times we had planned… 😦 but we DID manage to do some shoots anyway!..
Ok so enough of the boring back story…lol
The images i will be displaying are actually from two separate photo shoots.
The first being on the roof of where i currently live, the second being at my families’ photography/dance studio.
I’m pleased with the end product, and as we get more comfortable with each other i believe the future shoots will only get better.
I made sure to shoot in RAW plus Monochrome JPEG so i would have more flexibility when working with the files if i wasn’t happy with the original file.
The ultimate goal of Yoga is moksha (liberation) though the exact definition of what form this takes depends on the philosophical or theological system with which it is conjugated.
According to Jacobsen, “Yoga has five principal meanings:
- yoga as a disciplined method for attaining a goal;
- yoga as techniques of controlling the body and the mind;
- yoga as a name of one of the schools or systems of philosophy (darśana);
- yoga in connection with other words, such as “hatha-, mantra-, and laya-,” referring to traditions specialising in particular techniques of yoga;
- yoga as the goal of yoga practice.”
According to David Gordon White, from the 5th century CE onward, the meanings of the term “yoga” became more or less fixed, but having various meanings:
I just gotta say, my friend Mondee turned out to be an amazing model and Yogini (i believe the term is?) which made it easier to capture her movements during the shoot.
It was hard not to say wow at times while she went through her motions.
It was very fluid and i couldn’t help but notice how artistic she looked while she moved, it peaked my interest in Yoga for sure!
